Insight are in Brussels today attending the European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing, at which policy and market leaders will come together to forge a vision for Europe on how to address the challenges and opportunities arising from the ageing population through ICT and innovation.
How can technology, innovation and new ways of cooperation help Europe to turn the major challenge of an ageing population into an opportunity? This is the question that today’s summit is seeking to answer, and will do so through live demonstrations and an interactive exhibition that will highlight some areas of research that have managed to translate good ideas on how to aid older adults with ICT into successful commercial ventures.
Insight have contributed to this effort through a publication featuring ten AAL projects that have followed on from the success of their initial research to create viable products that have made real impact on their respective markets. For instance, the team behind the CapMouse project, which looked into creating a computer interface that uses lip movements, has now created a working product, LipIt, that is ready to take the market by storm. It is this sort of successful innovation that can inspire other entrepreneurs and researchers to explore the vast untapped market that the ageing population of Europe offers.
