Website Development Case Study
AVOID is a research programme, led by the Met Office, that provides key advice to the UK Government on avoiding dangerous climate change brought on by greenhouse gas emissions. The premise is that whilst a rise in global temperature is inevitable, we can still have an influence on how much the temperature rises in the foreseeable future but only if we reduce emissions immediately.
AVOID wanted the site to address all the “big questions” about our climate in a way that would appeal to the widest possible audience, clearly demonstrating the impact rises and falls in emissions would have on global temperature over time.
The solution Insight devised was an emissions calculator that shows how annual reductions in emissions impacts on temperature on a yearly basis using a sliding scale to add visual impact. The work also involved the integration and rebuild of the existing AVOID sites alongside the creation of original material and features to support and enhance the aims and objectives of the project.
Our editors interviewed key members of the project to understand these aims and so were able to write concise and clear copy, while the layout of the site made it simple to navigate logically to understand the bigger picture of climate change.
